Pricey Apple Gets Affordable

iPhone 5C 16GB to cost $99 and 32GB one is priced at $199

San Francisco California  Sept. 10 : Targeting Android's mass market in emerging countries, rival Apple on Tuesday unveiled its iPhone 5S and lower-cost 5C models amid much anticipation.

Chief executive Tim Cook kicked off the event at the company's Cupertino headquarters in California, outlining how he expects Apple to ship the 700 millionth device- an iPhone or iPad-based on iOS mobile software sometime next month.

Mr Cook said: with iOS7, iOS will become the world's most popular operating system.

The iPhone 5C 16GB phone has been priced at $99 and 32GB one at $199. The company said the new iPhone models will be available for sale from September 18.

Apple said that iPhone 5C will be available in green, white, blue, pink and yellow Colours. It's made with all the incredible technology of the iPhone 5, says Phil Schiller. The entire back and sides are made from a single part, he adds.

It will have a 4-inch Retina display, integrated touch layer and an A6 processor. Speaking about iPhone 5S, the company said 5S will be available in silver, gold, and a new space gray. It will have a 64-bit chip, the first ever on asmartphone.

Apple's strategic launch of the economical iPhone comes at a time when Samsung, (which over took Apple for the first time worldwide in June in terms of internet usage) has extended its lead to 25.7 per-cent in August compared to Apple on 23.4 % globally, leding the race in emerging markets like China and India with its Android OS.

Analysts say that it is key for Apple to be able to find ways to drive growth at a much higher rate again, and getting China's biggest carrier on board and launching a cheaper version of the iPhone are both key to doing that.
